For Crying Out Loud
Just finished a book that really surprised me. It was John Irving's A Prayer for Owen Meany. The movie called "Simon Birch" has similarities, but not the scope or depth of the book. You know all along what the ending is (tragic), and even a little bit of how the tragedy will happen. What the surprise was that touched me was the vision Owen had for his life. He saw a purpose for all that had happened to him, and he never wavered in his faith. His life was not easy, but he used the gifts he had to the fullest, hoped for a happier outcome, and did not complain when it didn't materialize. I recommend it if you don't mind one that leaves you crying out loud in the last chapter.
