Ode to the Jelly

I think the jelly-bellied cnidarian
is a respectable antiquitarian.
His longevity as a living phylum
Begs the opposition to give asylum.
Stinging tentacles give him the ascendance
over extinct but promising descendants.
To sting hapless prey is what those things are for
When you're a hungry Portuguese man-'o-war.
I could continue on to accentuate
the hollow-goo-intestined coelenterate.
Perhaps someday later I will follow up
by mentioning the cool groovin' child-polyp.
